In its original showing, “Chess” only lasted 16 performances; but the revival has worked its way into the top five in its first full week of performances with $1.86 million. And it was a near hard sellout with just 16 seats going unclaimed for seven performances.
Down a little over three percent last week, Broadway still brought in nearly $37 million but the numbers are up overall from last season – a record breaking year.
With Leslie Odom Jr still in the role of Aaron Burr, “Hamilton” continues to top the list in the Million Dollar Club with over $3 million; with the usual suspects of “Wicked” and “The Lion King” being joined by “Waiting for Godot” and “Chess” rounding out the top five.
Fifteen of the 32 shows currently running made it into the Million Dollar Club last week.
