During the race at Talladega Superspeedway last week, William Sawalich was involved in a hard crash with Connor Mosack and Dean Thompson. He was checked at the infield care center and then transported to a local hospital but was released in the early morning hours on Sunday.
On Wednesday evening, Sawalich began showing Concussion like symptoms; as a result, he will not participate in the race on Saturday at Martinsville Speedway.
Justi Bonsignore will take over the driving duties in the Joe Gibbs Racing number 18 in the Xfinity Series race at Martinsville on Saturday. Sawalich is not one of the eight playoff drivers competing for the championship.
Sawalich posted on social media saying, “I’m disappointed to not be in the car this weekend, but my health is my number one priority. I’m feeling better every day and working with Dr. Collins at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and NASCAR to go through their concussion protocol to return to the track as soon as possible.”
Justin Bonsignore is a four time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion who has made seven starts for JGR this season driving the number 19 car.
