Over the course of a musical career a musician can collect quite a collection of instruments and gear.

U2 bass player Adam Clayton will be auctioning some of his personal collection.

Julein’s Auctions will be holding the “Played, Worn, & Torn Featuring The Adam Clayton Collection” featuring 18 of Clayton’s bass guitars.

From now ‘til November 9, the exhibition is open to the public for viewing The Museum of Style Icons in Newbridge, Co Kildare, Ireland for the first time ever in Clayton and U2’s homeland.

After the exclusive viewing session, the collection will travel across the pond to Nashville for the big auction event November 20 and 21 at the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum.  Interested parties who cannot travel to Nashville, may place bids online at juliensauctions.com.

Speaking on the collection Adam Clayton said, “I’m fortunate enough to have owned many wonderful instruments in my life and I have amassed a very personal collection of basses over the last 40 years. They have all become favourites for one reason or another, a reminder of a particular tour or recording session. I return to them time and time again, it’s a very special relationship, I can’t really explain it…”

He continued, “my only regret is that I don’t get to play them all as often as I would like, a musical instrument needs time and attention… I’ll be sad to see these basses go but this is an opportunity to give each and every one of them a new home in the care of a new owner. And maybe they can become someone else’s favourite.”

Big U2 fans may even recognize some of the instruments up for auction as some that Clayton used on stage.

A portion of the proceeds form the 22 time Grammy Award winning member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will go to MusiCares – an charity that aids musicians in need.

Some of the instruments up for auction include:
