Do lazy days make you feel rested or unproductive?
There’s an old song that has a line about the “lazy hazy days of summer”.
But why should a day laying around for whatever reason be relegated to just summer???
Cultures in the hotter climates take off for the hottest part of the day for a “siesta”. I’m sure they don’t spend the whole time actually sleeping. Though some down time can be beneficial for “recharging the batteries”.
When I was a kid my mother used to brag that we were never sick enough to know how to act. Even bouts of the chicken pox and mumps (no vaccines back then) did not send up running to hide under the covers in bed.
But that attitude also meant we couldn’t just lay around. She had to “work” all day and could not rest so neither could we.
Due to her views, I spent many years not allowing myself the afternoon “siesta” or other “down time”. It is something I still struggle with after all this time.
“Down time” does not necessarily mean being lazy. Resting – whether it be actual sleeping or just taking it down a few notches – is an essential part of life. Human bodies and brains require some “down time” to regenerate and process.
Occasionally, I have to let things go and try to “regroup” and recharge my brain and general attitude. Such “recharging” usually involves getting near or on some water. My annual boat rides are great for an “attitude adjustment” 🙂 It helps to resettle me and allows me to get the processes refiring. Only problem is…it doesn’t happen often enough.
Lazy days are something completely different than someone who is just plain lazy.
