Hmmmm,
When I first saw the prompt, my first thought was music artists. I should have known better since I do both.
In Rochester, New York there is a gallery called Artisan Works that features numerous art forms from painting, sculpture, photography, pottery, installations, and just about anything else you can think of creating.
In a random conversation one day, I encountered someone who had his work at the Gallery – as do I. His remark on the place was rather disturbing to me, especially coming from a fellow artist. He noted how smart the owner was, but added that some of the works in the gallery were trash.
I immediately told him that just because HE didn’t like it, didn’t mean it wasn’t art.
No longer in Rochester, I have not been to Artisan Works in several years, but always enjoyed touring the place.
Built in an old warehouse, the tracks are still on the floor where carts were used to haul goods. The way the exhibits are displayed there is a turn at the end of the building to go back up the other side. Just as you turn is an installation of a construction site. I have passed that exhibit dozens of times and it never failed. I would always speak to the construction men in the installation! 🙂
Granted there were some things in the gallery that I was not crazy about, but I appreciated the work that went into creating it.
One guy even created a giant ball using #2 pencils and rubber bands. I watched him building one once; it was incredible to see.
I met and interviewed an artist there who chose to paint nudes – nothing obscene or pornographic but minus clothing. His reason??? He didn’t want to invoke specific attitudes or insinuations. He wanted the viewer to develop their own thoughts and ideas about the person in the painting.
Admittedly, I am not a big fan of modern art – the kind that are abstract and without form.
I prefer landscapes, seascapes, and sunsets; but I don’t have one particular person that I favour over another…unless it is maybe one of my own. 🙂

Very cool! 😎
