After the Bank of America Roval 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 5, NASCAR disqualified Riley Herbst after post race inspection determined that Herbst’s number 35 23XI car did not meet the weight requirement.
After a number of on track incidents, Herbst finished the race one lap down in 30th place.
After the disqualification, he will be placed in last place – 37th and receive only one point.
A rookie in the Cup Series, Herbst drove in the Xfinity Series last season.
Last year Alex Bowman also had his car disqualified for similar weight issues.
NASCAR is taking Herbst’s number 35 car and the number 41 car driven by Cole Custer back to their R&D Center for further inspection.
New Zealand born driver Shane van Gisbergen handily won the race by over 15 seconds after staying out on the track when other drivers came into the pits for fresh tires. Van Gisbergen earned his fifth road course race in a row – the fourth of this year.
