The 2025 NASCAR season has been filled with more than racing. Teams Front Row Motorsports and 23XI Racing have been in court over accusations of anti-trust and the charter system; while Rick War Racing and Legacy Motor Club have been in court battling it out over one of those charters.
LMC and RWR have announced that a settlement has been reached in their suit; however, no details of the resolution have been announced.
A team co-owner, Jimmie Johnson said, “reaching a positive outcome was important for everyone involved. I truly respect the effort put forth by Robby Benton and Rick Ware to reach a settlement so we may all focus on our business operations and future goals. I’m glad this is behind us and we can all move forward in unison.”
Rick Ware stated, “I met with both Jimmie (Johnson) and Cal Wells recently and we came to an agreement to sell and transfer a charter from RWR to LEGACY MOTOR CLUB.”
Ware added, “I believe we landed in a mutually beneficial place for both teams and the result will be a clear path forward for us all. I look forward to putting all of our focus on finishing the 2025 season strong.”
No longer a part of NASCAR after the breakup of Stewart-Haas Racing, former owner Tony Stewart had plenty to say when it comes to the charters that NASCAR issues to teams. Similar to a franchise, the team purchase a charter that guarantees a start in every race and extra money when the money is divided up.
Calling the charters a joke Stewart says, “What it was when I started and where it’s at now, the direction it’s going, I don’t necessarily agree with it. I don’t necessarily like it. There’s elements that I’m very disappointed in. That’s okay. Not everybody has to agree on it.”
“For me, that’s why it’s the right time to make a change.”
“When someone like Rick Hendrick says, ‘I just got tired of arguing with them.’ Do you think Rick Hendrick runs his business and in negotiations just says, ‘Ah, I’m just going to sign this agreement because I’m tired of arguing with you.’ “
“Rick Hendrick’s never done that a day in his life. So, if people aren’t smart enough to read between the lines and figure out what that means, then you’re all missing the whole big picture.”
“It’s just an area that I don’t want to be a part of anymore. I’m an old school guy when it comes to racing.”
