What are your favorite types of foods?

While there are a number of things I will not eat; I am big on fish, chicken, and turkey. Beef is ok too, but I am not a big meat and potatoes kind of person. I prefer my fish and chicken not fried. An occasional fried is ok, but baked and steamed is better.

I am what is known as a picky eater. It seems sometimes that my list of I don’t like or eat is longer than my I like that list.

I love broccoli – mushy not crunchy, carrots, potatoes, rice – plain, flavoured, and fried -, corn, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, chicken noodle soup 🙂 (also known as Jewish penicillin), banana pudding 🙂 – especially when my Dad made it -, yogurt – it’s great with whipped topping mixed in -, beef or chicken and broccoli, shepherd’s pie, cheesecake, carrot cake, ice cream – although sometimes me and dairy don’t get along :(, and of course you got to have some snacks like chips and such.

However, you will never find any pork, shellfish, greens or any of the like in my refrigerator or freezer. No beets, spicy stuff, and a number of other vegetables.

However, I have learned that what kinds of things people eat depends on culture, where they grew up and what was available to them.

When I was in Russia, every day at the midday meal there were sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, and bread on the table when we walked into the dining hall. The white bread was VERY popular and disappeared quickly…the dark bread, not so much. I don’t like tomatoes and cucumbers but somebody did because they usually disappeared.

I would always at least try the soup, most of them were good but I didn’t like the borscht or the soup with the eggs in it.

The main course was frequently a bit of a mystery, but it was always some sort of beef and potatoes.

the funniest part of that story is that after a while the students complained about the daily portion of meat and potatoes, but when we went to Moscow, the first thing some of the students did was to head for McDonalds for hamburgers and fries – meat and potatoes!

The McD’s burgers (called a gamburger) really were good.
