On this Labor Day holiday weekend NASCAR is busy on both sides of the country as the playoffs begins for the Craftsman Truck and Cup Series on the east coast at Darlington Raceway.
Frankie Muniz posted on social media that he fell off a ladder while changing batteries on his video doorbell and broke his writst; which means he is out of commission for a few weeks. Mason Maggio will be driving the number 33 truck for Muniz this week.
Kaden Honeycutt will continue to drive Stewart Friesen’s number 52 truck for the remainder of the season. Kaden is in the playoffs, the truck is not.
Part-time racer, driver coach, and full time broadcaster Trevor Bayne learned only last week at Daytona that he would be driving in the race this week for his first race of the season.
There are 32 trucks at Darlington Raceway for the Sober or Slammer 200 on Saturday afternoon.
But first up is some practice and a qualifying run on Friday afternoon.
The drivers have been divided into two groups for a 25 minute practice session.
Some of the teams are featuring “throw back” schemes, honouring drivers of the past.
Timmy Hill tops the leaderboard in practice with a time of 30.186 seconds around the 1.36 mile track.
Often seen as a badge of honour, Grant Enfinger is the first driver to earn a “Darlington Stripe” today.
The first driver on the track to make a qualifying run is Stefan Parsons who posted a time of 30.632 seconds.
Tanner Gray is the first driver to break the 30 second mark with a time of 29.925 seconds.
With a time of 29.322 seconds, Layne Riggs puts his number 34 truck on the pole with Chandler Smith starting alongside on the front row. Front Row Motorsports occupies the front row for the race for their first front row start.

With the tire fall off at Darlington, the teams were given a total of five sets of tires for race events including practice, qualifying, and the race.
