Actor Scott Bakula returns to where it all began…musical theater…when he plays Aimable Castagnet in the Classic Stage Company’s rendition of “The Baker’s Wife” alongside Ariana DeBose in the title role as Genevieve.
Whie he began in musical theater, Bakula is best known as Dr. Sam Beckett in the hit television series “Quantum Leap”, Captain Jonathan Archer in “Star Trek Enterprise”, and as Agent Dwayne Pride in “NCIS: New Orleans”.
The Stephen Schwartz and Joseph Stein production is set to play at the Lynn F. Angelson Theater beginning October 23 and run to December 14.
This is not Bakula’s first encounter with “The Baker’s Wife”; over 40 years ago he played the role of Dominique at the Cincinnati Playhouse production of the musical.
Bakula made his Broadway debut in 1983 and has performed on stages from both sides of the Atlantic.
Gordon Greenberg will direct the production’s first return to New York since 1976.
Based on the Marcel Pagnol and Jean Gionoand film “La Femme du Boulanger”, “The Baker’s Wife” is the story of a new baker and his younger wife’s arrival in a French village and turn things upside down with plenty of gossip, romance, and mischief.
