It was a big weekend for road course racing in the Finger Lakes region of central New York when all three racing series traveled to Watkins Glen International.

While somewhat predictable, all three series saw winning streaks extended to historic measures.

In the Cup Series, William Byron reclaimed the points standings lead from teammate Chase Elliott and has a 42 point lead with just two races remaining in the regular season.

Shane van Gisbergen won the race in dominating fashion with a 12 second lead to win his fourth consecutive road course race to become the first driver in NASCAR history to win four such races in his rookie season.  With his fourth win, van Gisbergen now stands in second place in the playoff standings behind Denny Hamlin.

It should be noted that Chase Elliott is the only driver in the field of full time drivers who does not have a DNF for the season!

In the Xfinity Series a 16 car pile up on the track brought a 45 minute red flag condition while workers repaired the wall and cleared the track.

After notching his sixth race win of the season, Connor Zilisch brought a scary moment to Victory Lane when he slipped on a wet window net and had a hard fall to the ground.  He was taken to the infield care center and later a local hospital where he was diagnosed with no head injuries but has a broken collarbone.

Stewart Friesen – after missing the race on Friday, Friesen can request a waiver and allow the team to continue a bid for the owner’s championship.  It will allow the team to earn money through the first two races of the playoffs even though Friesen will not be in the truck.
