Daily writing prompt
What is the most important thing to carry with you all the time?

Over the years what a person carried with them as they left their home has changed. Time was all that was needed was a knife or club to defend from wild creatures.

For centuries it has been necessary for someone making a journey, a weapon was required for protection and even today there are some people who believe a weapon is as essential as keys and wallet.

For many years when a person left home, they patted their pockets or checked for wallet, keys, and possibly glasses.

Then technology arrived and the phone was added to the essentials required for leaving home.

For me, my essentials upon walking out the door are my wallet, Kindle, phone, keys, and asthma inhaler. Oh, and I have to have a small bottle of sanitizer in my pocket…you just never know when it may be needed.

For some medications are an essential part of leaving home; for others, baby supplies are required. Depending on the person, there could be any number of items considered essential.

But in today’s society for residents of the United States, the most important thing to possess every time they walk out the door is a proper form of identification. We must be able to prove who we are and that we belong here. The government has gotten very aggressive over ensuring those who are here should be here and those who do not belong here are sent away. While ID will not stop a person from being caught up in the melee, it will help in sorting things out later.

.But, it is always important to have some proper form of identification in case of an emergency or disaster. Proper ID can help put family members at ease or at least relieve some of the stress of not knowing.

Sometimes it feels like the world is returning to the days of when a greeting included “papers please”.
