After a couple of weeks of road racing, NASCAR returns to the ovals and Miles the Monster at Dover Motor Speedway – also known as a One Mile Concrete Jungle.

Forty teams have brought cars to Dover for 38 starting spots.  Among the drivers vying for a starting spot this week is the “Melon Man” Ross Chastain driving the JR Motorsports number nine car.  Dale Earnh

Craftsman Truck Series driver Rajah Caruth is making his Xfinity Series debut at Dover; a track he knows well.

Driving the Hendrick Motorsports number 17 car this week is Jake Finch making his debut.

The drivers have been divided into two groups for a 25 minute practice session. The drivers have two laps to make their best time for qualifying.

Making his Xfinity Series debut, Lavar Scott got a bit loose but saved the car.

Jesse Love topped the leaderboard at the end of group one practice.

While ninth overall, Sheldon Creed leads the field in group two practice.

Glen Reen is the first car on the track to make a qualifying run and posted a time of 24.501 seconds.

Ryan Truex is held up from making his qualifying run with a window net issue.

Garrett Smithley has trouble getting the engine fired.

Jesse Love is the first driver to break the 24 second mark with a time of 23.927 seconds.

With a time of 23.578 seconds around the one mile track, Taylor gray put his number 54 car on the pole with Nick Sanchez starting alongside on the front row.

Glen Reen and David Star did not qualify for the race.

Justin Allgaier got into the wall on his qualifying run and will have to make repairs to the car before race time.  He said that he got loose and was just a passenger.  The entire JRM crews were working on the car including Allgaier and he will have to start the race from the back of the field.  Jeremy Clements and Nick Leitz will also start the race from the back of the field.

The rains have moved on and the track is dry and green; but it is also hot and muggy, which can affect the drivers.

Stages one and two are 45 laps each with stage three lasting 110 laps for a total of 200 laps around the one mile concrete track.

Denny Hamlin joins Adam Alexander and Jamie McMurray in the CW broadcast booth.

Pit road at Dover is narrow with small pit boxes.  The drivers were speeding even on pace laps trying to set the tachometers.  Pit road speed is just 35mph.

The start of the race is delayed a bit for water that seeped up onto the track.

Taylor Gray brings the field down for the green flag start of the race with Nick Sanchez alongside.  Gray jumps out in front for the lead with Nick Sanchez in second.

Lap three, Taylor Gray leads the race with Nick Sanchez in second; Brandon Jones, Connor Aric Almirola round out the top five.

Lap seven, Justin Allgaier has already moved up 25th.

Lap nine, Taylor Gray has a near half second lead on Nick Sanchez; Connor Zilisch has run the fastest lap of the race so far in third place.

Four of the top seven drivers are rookies.

Lap 14, Justin Allgaier has entered the top 20 with Taylor Gray leading the race.

Lap 20, the top five remains Taylor Gray, Nick Sanchez, Connor Zilisch, Brandon Jones, and Aric Almirola.

Lap 24, Taylor Gray has a near one second lead on Nick Sanchez; Connor Zilisch, Brandon Jones, and Aric Almirola round out the top five.  Justin Allgaier is up to 17th.

The cousins Burton started side by side and remain together on the track with Harrison in 10th and Jeb in eleventh.

Lap 29, Taylor Gray now has a lead of over a second on Brandon Jones, Aric Almirola, Nick Sanchez, and Connor Zilisch round out the top five.  Justin Allgaier has entered the top 15 in 14th.

Lap 34, Justin Allgaier is just outside the top 10 in eleventh.

Lap 36, Taylor Gray has pulled to a second and a half lead on Brandon Jones.

Ross Chastain has passed Nick Sanchez for fifth.

Aric Almirola has passed Brandon Jones for second.

Lap 39, Justin Allgaier is now in the top 10 in ninth place.

In ninth place, Justin Allgaier is running laps as fast as the leaders.

Taylor Gray wins stage one after leading every lap.

In 32nd place, Josh Williams is the “lucky dog”.

Drivers come down pit road for service with Brandon Jones just edging out Connor Zilisch to win the race off of pit road.  Taylor Gray had a slow stop of over 20 seconds when the air hose was caught under the car.

Jake Finch and Lavar Scott were caught speeding on pit road and will have to restart the race from the back of the field.

Brandon Jones brings the field down for the green flag start of stage two on lap 55 with Connor Zilisch alongside.  Zilisch takes the lead after a push from teammate Justin Allgaier.

The top five are Connor Zilisch, Brandon Jones, Aric Almirola, Justin Allgaier, and Jesse Love.

Second place driver Brandon Jones has run the fastest lap so far.

Lap 61, Connor Zilisch has pulled out to a lead of over a second on Aric Almirola; Brandon Jones, Justin Allgaier, and Ryan Sieg rounding out the top five.

Lap 70, Connor Zilisch holds a lead of over a second on Aric Almirola; Brandon Jones, Justin Allgaier, and Ryan Sieg round out the top five.

Reports are that more wet weather is on the way and about three miles out.

Lap 77, Connor Zilisch has a one second lead on Aric Almirola; Brandon Jones, Justin Allgaier, and Ryan Sieg round out the top five.  Ross Chastain has moved up to seventh.

Lap 80, 10 laps until the end of stage two – the point when the race becomes official.  Connor Zilisch has a second and a half lead on Aric Almirola.

In eleventh place, Taylor Gray reports that this is the worst car he has ever driven in an expletive filled rant.

With four laps remaining in stage two, Connor Zilisch now has a lead of under a second on Aric Almirola.

Drivers come down pit road for service with Connor Zilisch winning the race off of pit road.

Parker Retzlaff was charged with having an uncontrolled itre on pit road and Sammy Smith was charged with speeding on pit road.  Jeremy Clements was charged with equipment interference.  All of the drivers will restart the race from the back of the field.

Ross Chastain has been called back to pit road for lug nut issues.

Kyle Sieg brings the field down for the green flag start of stage three on lap 101 after staying out on the track.  Connor Zilisch takes the lead with Brandon Jones in second; Aric Almirola, Justin Allgaier, and Jesse Love round out the top five..  Kyle Sieg has fallen out of the top 10.

Crew chiefs are telling the drivers they are racing for the win with weather on the way.

If the race goes to the scheduled end, the drivers will have to make a pit stop for fuel and their final set of sticker tires.

Ross Chastain brings his car down pit road after reports of a vibration – a possible drive trane issue.

Nick Sanchez comes down pit road also reporting an issue with his car – possible power steering.

Lap 110, Connor Zilisch has a lead of over half a second on Brandon Jones; Aric Almirola, Justin Allgaier, and Jesse Love round out the top five.

Nick Sanchez and Ross Chastain come back down pit road and take their cars to the garage.

Lap 121, Connor Zilisch has a lead of over a second on Brandon Jones; Aric Almirola, Justin Allgaier, and Jesse Love round out the top five.

Ross Chastain reports that a gear broke in the car.

Kyle Sieg has been charged with a safety violation and will have to serve a passthrough penalty.

The caution flag comes out on lap 132 for precipitation.

NASCAR is bringing the cars down pit road and allowing two crew members to come out and cover the cars.

At 6:15pm NASCAR has displayed the red flag due to inclement weather.  They have previously announced that the end time is 8:10pm.  There are no lights at Dover.24n

NASCAR has called the race with Connor Zilisch named the winner for his fifth career victory and fourth of the season.
