The lug nut monster was busy at Sonoma last weekend with a total of four teams being penalized over lug nut issues.
In the Cup Series, late in the race Cody Ware lost the lug nut on the right rear tire and shortly thereafter, the wheel went rolling down the course and onto the grass. Citing a violation of the NASCAR rule book under Section 8.8.10.4.C, NASCAR suspended 51 crew members Marquill Osborne and De’Quan Hampton for the next two races.
In the Xfinity Series post race inspection revealed loose lug nuts on three cars.
The number 21 Richard Childress Racing car driven by Austin Hill
The Sam Hunt racing number 26 car driven by Dean Thompson
and the Alpha Prime Racing number 44 car driven by Brennan Poole
were all found to have a single lug nut improperly secured. As a result the crew chiefs were fined $5,000 each.
This weekend the Xfinity and Cup Series drivers take on Miles the Monster at Dover Speedway.
