If you could host a dinner and anyone you invite was sure to come, who would you invite?

Ok, this would have to be one of those dead or alive questions to get the proper setting.

My Dad, the guy who classifies music as Classical – good – and everything else bad, once told me that he would love to have met and had a conversation with Dave. Brubeck – the man who wrote “Take Five”.

I grew up listening to my Dad play the piano and one of his favourite pieces to play was “Claire de Lune” by Claude Debussy, so he would have to be on the list.

Dad also told me once that Stevie Wonder was a very intelligent man. Besides being a great songwriter, he has created or helped to create a number of devices for people who are blind. So, I think he would have to be invited as well.

As for me, two artists I greatly admire for their musical talents are Barry Manilow and Sting.

Can you imagine the conversation??? Great musicians all, the topic of course would fall to all manner of music; from writing and thoughts on creating to performing and how the music has changed over the years.

A history and theory nut like me would be in seventh heaven. I just hope I would remember it all.

The evening would be epic!

And of course, everyone knows, you can’t have three musicians in the same room together without a jam ensuing at some point.

With this group – four piano players and two multi instrumentalists – there would be no need for any after dinner entertainment – they would provide their own! It would last for hours!

Sam Phillips had his Million Dollar Quartet, but this would be a Billion Dollar Band…for one night only!
