Sir Paul McCartney has had a number of books published containing photographs he had taken over the years; among them photos while a part of the Beatles.
Next year, Random House will be publishing a book of Beatle era photos from George Harrison. Titled “The Third Eye”, features over 250 photographs in black and white and in colour; many of which have never before been published.
The collection for the book have been compiled by George’s wife Olivia. The photos span 1963 to 69 and include the Beatles everywhere from home in Liverpool to India and Shea Stadium.
Olivia Harrison spoke on the upcoming book via statement saying, “I want to show people, from George’s unique photographic perspective during the Beatles’ early years, the moments when the whole of your life is ahead of you with unknowable possibilities. His images in ‘The Third Eye’ capture that spirit.”
Harrison died in 2001 as a result of cancer.
Olivia Harrison has contributed an essay to the book, Irish novelist and former chancellor of the University of Liverpool Colm Toibin wrote an introduction, and American short story writer George Saunders wrote an epilogue for the book. The book also includes Harrison’s own words with the photos.
Beatles drummer Ringo Starr penned a song with Harrison titled “Photograph”. Starr has also published a book of photographs that was published in 2015. Sir Paul’s most recent photo book was published in 2023 title “Eyes of the Storm”.
