The play “Good Night, and Good Luck” is one of the highest grossing plays on Broadway and has recouped its original investment in just seven weeks! With tickets averaging $300 each, the show even broke a Broadway record, bringing in $4 Million in ONE WEEK!
Based on journalist Edward R. Murrow’s conflict with Senator Joseph McCarthey, “Good Night, and Good Luck” was based on the film of the same name and co-written by its star performer George Clooney.
The 2005 film and play’s title “Good Night, and Good Luck” was how Murrow used to sign off at the end of his broadcasts.
The June 7 performance of “Good Night, and Good Luck” will be broadcast live on CNN – the night before the annual Tony Awards. The play is scheduled to end its run with the June 8 matinee.
The play earned five Tony Award nominations including one for Clooney as Murrow.
The play will begin at 7pm and will air across the CNN channels including online at CNN.com.
The broadcast begins with a special pre-show coverage outside the theatre before moving inside for the performance itself and include a special discussion on the sate of global journalism afterwards.
George Clooney spoke on the upcoming broadcast saying,”I can’t tell you how exciting it is to do something that’s never been done. CNN is the perfect place to bring this story of courage to so many more people than we could have ever hoped. Live TV. No net. Buckle up everyone.”
CNN Chairman and CEO Mark Thompson spoke on the play saying “’Good Night, and Good Luck’ is not just a celebration of a golden age in TV journalism. It’s also about the importance of the free press and the need for strong news organizations to report the facts in a fair-minded way. That’s something we still care deeply about.”
Joining Clooney on stage in “Good Night, and Good Luck” are Ilana Glazer, Clark Gregg,Mac Brandt, Will Dagger, Christopher Denham, Glenn Fleshler, Paul Gross, Gerogia Heers, Carter Hudson, Fran Kranz, Jennifer Morris, Michael Nathanson, Andrew Polk, and Aaron Roman Weiner.
