Dr. Carla Hayden was recently fired from her position as the head librarian for the Library of Congress by the President with no reason or cause; just one year short of her tenure.  A native of Tallahassee, Hayden was the first woman of colour to hold the position.

In protest to the actions out of the White House, the musical “Dead Outlaw” has announced that they are canceling their May 12 performance at the Library of Congress.

Among the nominees at the recently announced Tony Award nominees, “Dead Outlaw” was to celebrate some of the materials from the musical were being entered into the Library of Congress.

In a statement “Dead Outlaw” said, “regretfully, the Broadway production of Dead Outlaw has decided to cancel Monday’s planned appearance at the Library of Congress upon learning of the termination of Dr. Carla Hayden, the Librarian of Congress. Dr. Hayden has been a fierce advocate for preserving America’s cultural memory and a great champion of the Broadway community.”

Playbill noted that it is unknown at this time whether the artifacts designated for entry into the Library of Congress will take place at a later date.  Yazbek, Della Penna, and Moses were making the donations.

After opening on April 27, “Dead Outlaw” has been nominated for seven Tony Awards including Best Musical.

Based on a true story, “Dead Outlaw” tells the story of Elmer McCurdy who became a side show attraction after his death.

The musical “Les Miserables” announced on May 7 that some of the cast were boycotting their performances at the Kennedy Center after the hostile takeover by the White House administration.
