Rock and Roll Hall of Fame British rockers The Who have announced that after over 60 years of rocking the world, it is time to put away the microphones and stow the touring gear; but first they will have one last hurrah with one last tour.
Pete Townsend said, “well, all good things must come to an end. It is a poignant time. For me, playing to American audiences and those in Canada has always been incredible.”
Roger Daltry added, “let’s see if we survive this one. I don’t want to say that there won’t be (a U.K. farewell tour), but equally I’m not confident in saying there will be.”
Daltry noted that his doctor has advised him to take a day off after each show to give his throat some rest.
Surviving The Who members Pete Townsend and Roger Daltry said that “The Song Is Over North America Farewell Tour” will encompass the band’s career spanning hits.
The Who were known for packing stadiums; Roger Daltry noted, “every musician’s dream in the early ‘60’s was to make it big in the U.S. charts. For The Who, that dream came true in 1967 and our lives were changed forever.”
Now 79, Pete Townsend said, “today, Roger (Daltry 81) and I still carry the banner for the late Keith Moon and John Entwistle, and, of course, all of our long-time Who fans. I must say that although the road has not always been enjoyable for me, it is usually easy: the best job I could ever have had. I keep coming back.”
Tickets for The Who’s final U.S. dates go on sale to the general public May 16.
