With the annual All Star Race just a month away, NASCAR and Speedway motorsports officials have announced the format for the All Star Race set to return to North Wilkesboro Speedway.

Changes include an expanded main event, Pit Crew Challenge changes, a new caution rule, and a spotlight on competition between car manufacturers.

Just one week before the longest race of the season on May 18, the All Star Race events caps off four days of racing that includes the Craftsman Truck, Whelen Modified Tour, and CARS Tour Series.

For 2025 the 200 lap feature race is now 250 laps and will include a competition break on or around lap 100.

A new optional promoter’s caution flag is being introduced, but must be used before lap 220 and cannot be used if a caution for cause occurs after lap 200.  The Promoter’s caution may be used only once.

A new “race within a race” with a showdown between Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota will take place with the manufacturer with the lowest combined finishes named the winner.

Executive vice president and chief racing development officer John Probst spoke on the new format saying, “the NASCAR All-Star Race continues to evolve as one of the most fun and innovative events on our calendar.  Returning to historic North Wilkesboro Speedway for the third year in a row allows us to honor our sport’s roots while pushing the envelope with fresh competitive elements. The introduction of the Manufacturer Showdown brings a new layer of intensity and pride for our OEM partners, and fans can expect even more strategy, teamwork and drama on race day.”

The 100 lap All Star Open qualifying race where two drivers move on to the main race will remain the same.

The fan vote is still in play with one driver moving to the main race based on the fan’s choice.

Qualifying will include the All Star drivers and the Open drivers being combined.  The Pit Crew Challenge will include all of the teams.  Each driver will have three laps to qualify and must include a mandatory four tire pit stop on lap number two.  The qualifying order will set the lineup for the heat races and the All Star Open.

Pit box selections will be determined by the finishing order in the Pit Crew Challenge with the winner getting first choice.

Drivers who have won a points race in 2024 and 2025, previous All Star Race winners who compete full time, and full time drivers who are also Cup Series champions, automatically qualify for the All Star Race main event.
