Describe a random encounter with a stranger that stuck out positively to you.
As a journalist, I meet a lot of people both in person and on the phone. Many of those encounters were interesting and even sometimes fun. My interview style is…shall we say…unconventional – a break from the norm – which on media days thrills the artists to no end.
It would be very difficult to trim it down to just one person because there have been a number of encounters that left me feeling good about the impending article or just plain happy.
I always ask for stories or unusual events, stuff not usually seen in a typical interview article; which can often lead to some very interesting tales…
…there’s the band that was so poor they were swiping tomatoes from a patch to eat
…the conversation in front of a jukebox that led to the memory of an unforgettable band interview that resembled a party.
…the interview with an artist whom I later discovered had paid the bill at the coffee shop
…and meeting dozens of artists, some who have become friends
Of course, they have not all been great, but the good ones far outweigh the not so good ones; and make it all worth the time and trouble.
These days, the non-professional encounters are more surprising than positive memories.
