On March 23, the Kennedy Center hosted the annual Mark Twain Prize for Humour to honour comedian and late night talk show host Conan O’Brien.

But yet another musical has cancelled a series of dates this summer.  While no official reason for the cancellation of “Legally Blonde” in June was given; producers noted that it was not a Kennedy Center cancellation or because of any particular person.

“Legally Blonde” is a part of the Broadway Center Stage Series that puts on a series of productions throughout the year.

Broadway Center Stage Artistic Director and Executive Producer Jeffrey Finn said via statement, “I am disappointed to announce that the upcoming Broadway Center Stage production of “Legally Blonde” is being postponed to a future date. To be clear, this is not a Kennedy Center cancellation, and this is not due to any one person or persons involved with the show. Broadway Center Stage will continue our mission to deliver first class productions for our loyal patrons, as well as the Broadway creatives, casts, crew, and amazing Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra musicians. I sincerely look forward to bringing this vibrant show to life in the near future.”

It should be noted that while the Kennedy Center receives a small amount of their budget via government funds; a vast majority of their operating costs come form donations and ticket sells.

In recent weeks, the Kennedy Center has seen some major administrative changes that have translated into resignations and cancellations in protest of the hostile take over of the Center.

Saying that they want to eliminate “woke” programming, the new administration has yet to provide any exact guidelines over what is and is not acceptable when it comes to performances at the Kennedy Center.  The Social Impact team in charge of diversification has been disbanded.
