Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen founded the Raven Drum Foundation in 2001 with healing arts educator and musician Lauren Monroe.

Understanding the importance of music in life and healing, the Raven Drum Foundation brings “musicians, health educators, and the philanthropic community together to serve the healing of first responders and veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress. With the core philosophy that when music, intention, and healing wisdom all meet on the paths of neurobiology and psychology, we harmonize our inner mental and emotional states to effect positive change, the foundation provides mind, body, and drumming integrated workshops incorporating evidence-based techniques such as guided visualization, breathwork, and heart-brain coherence education to support wellness, and regulation of the human nervous system.”

Allen knows first hand the importance of such an organization having felt some deep despair after losing an arm in an auto accident.  And later the elation at being able to play once again with the aid of some adaptive drumming equipment.

On April 25 the Raven Drum Foundation will hold its second annual benefit concert at The Cutting Room in New York City.  The festivities begin at 7:30pm and tickets are on sale now at RavenDrumFoundation.org.  Tickets are $100 in advance and $150 at the door.

Proceeds will go toward education, counseling, and holistic care programs for those with post-traumatic stress.
