The Xfinity Series kicks off a doubleheader weekend in the desert at Phoenix Raceway.  The day of racing begins with Xfinity practice and qualifying before the race later today.

Thirty-eight teams brought cars to Phoenix for 38 starting spots; nobody will go home today.

The drivers have been divided into two groups for practice. 

The drivers get only one set of tires for practice.

 After the two groups of practice, Justin Allgaier topped the leaderboard with the fastest time of 27.685 seconds around the one mile track.  There were no Fords in the top 10 of practice.

The first driver on the track to make a qualifying run is Dawson Cram who posted a time of 29.000seconds.

Brandon Jones is the first driver to break the 28 second mark with a time of 27.840 seconds.

With a time of 27.276 seconds Arizona native Alex Bowman puts the number 17 car on the pole with Sheldon Creed starting alongside on the front row.

Stages one and two are 45 laps each with stage three lasting 110 laps for a total of 200 laps around the one mile track.

Ryan Sieg, Matt DiBenedetto, and William Sawalich have to start the race from the back of the field after car issues after qualifying.

Alex Bowman brings the field down for the green flag start of the race with Sheldon Creed alongside.  Drivers quickly spread out across the track with Alex Bowman getting out in front for the lead.

Lap four, the top five are Alex Bowman, Sheldon Creed, Taylor Gray, Aric Almirola, and Sammy Smith.

Lap 10, Alex Bowman continues to lead the race and has run the fastest lap of the race so far; Aric Almirola, Sheldon Creed, Sammy Smith, and Justin Allgaier round out the top five.

Lap 16, Thomas Annunziata takes his car to the garage.

Lap 18, Alex Bowman continues to lead the race with a lead of over two seconds on Aric Almirola; Sheldon Creed, Justin Allgaier, and Connor Zilisch round out the top five.

Lap 20, Justin Allgaier started the race in 14th place, he has just passed Sheldon Creed for third.
Lap 21, Matt DiBenedetto brings his car down pit road with a flat tire.

Lap 23, leader Alex Bowman is already encountering slower traffic.

Lap 30, in his only Xfinity Series start of the year, Alex Bowman is dominating the race and has a lead of nearly three seconds on Aric Almirola; Justin Allgaier, Sheldon Creed, and Connor Zilisch round out the top five.

Lap 37, there are 26 cars on the lead lap.

With just three laps remaining in stage one, Aric Almirola has closed the gap on leader Alex Bowman to under a second and a half.

Anthony Alfredo is the “lucky dog”.

Drivers come down pit road for service with Aric Almirola winning the race off of pit road.  Connor Zilisch has a slow pit stop after overshooting his pit stall and comes out in 21st place.

Aric Almirola brings the field down for the green flag start of stage two on lap 55 with Alex Bowman alongside.  Almirola gets out in front but Alex Bowman comes up on the outside to challenge for the lead but Almirola holds on to the lead.

The first caution flag for an on track incident comes out on lap 56 when Anthony Alfredo is stopped on the track.  He gets a push to the garage with a mechanical issue.

Kris Wright is the “lucky dog”.

Aric Almirola brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 62 with Alex Bowman alongside.  Almirola gets out in front.

The caution flag comes out on lap 63 when Austin Hill gets into the wall after making contact with Sheldon Creed who also went for a spin.  On the radio, Hill apologized for the incident.  Dean Thompson was also involved.

Out of the infield care center, Austin Hill said that he just misjudged the wall; adding that he feels bad for everyone involved.

Justin Allgaier comes up on the outside to pass Alex Bowman for the lead.

Lap 75, the top five are Justin Allgaier, Aric Almirola, Alex Bowman, Brandon Jones, and Sammy Smith.

Lap 77, Aric Almirola continues to battle with Justin Allgaier for the lead.

Lap 80, Justin Allgaier continues to battle with Aric Almirola with Alex Bowman and Brandon Jones coming up for a four way battle.  So far, Allgaier holds them off.

Daniel Dye and Christian Eckes are teammates but make a little contact.  The track stays green.

Lap 83, Aric Almirola finally passes Justin Allgaier for the lead but Allgaier comes up on the inside to retake the lead.

Justin Allgaier not only takes the lead; he also has the fastest lap in the race so far.  The driver with the fastest lap at the end of the race will receive a point.

Lap 89, leader Justin Allgaier encounters slower traffic.

William Sawalich, Kris Wright, Greg van Alst, and Sam Mayer were all caught speeding on pit road and will have to restart the race from the back of the longest line.

With 95 laps remaining in the race, the drivers are beginning to get aggressive; including teammates.

After starting the race from the back of the field in a backup car, Ryan Sieg is just outside the top 10 in eleventh.

Lap 112, Justin Allgaier has a half second lead on Aric Almirola; Brandon Jones, Alex Bowman, and Taylor Gray round out the top five.

William Sawalich was caught speeding on pit road and had to restart the race from the back of the field; he is now in the top 15.

With 110 laps in stage three, all of the drivers will have to make a pit stop during the stage to make it to the end of the race.

Lap 126, Justin Allgaier has a one second lead on Aric Almirola; Brandon Jones, Alex Bowman, and Taylor Gray round out the top five.

William Sawalich has moved up 13 spots since the restart and a speeding penalty.

With 63 laps remaining in the race, there are 22 cars on the lead lap.

Lap 140, Aric Almirola has closed the gap on leader Justin Allgaier to under half a second as the window for pit stops approaches.

Lap 141, Aric Almirola has caught leader Justin Allgaier and is challenging for the lead.

Lap 143, Aric Almirola passes Justin Allgaier for the lead.

Lap 144, Justin Allgaier passes Aric Almirola on the outside to retake the lead.

Lap 146, the caution flag comes out when Dawson Cram gets into the wall with a flat tire.  Sammy Smith was slow on the track after contact from Cram.  Cram reports that he was trying to come down pit road when he spun out.

With 51 laps remaining in the race, Justin Allgaier leads the drivers down pit road for service.  Justin Allgaier wins the race off of pit road.

The caution flag comes out with four laps remaining in the race when Nick Leitz gets into the wall.  The race will go into overtime.

There are 21 cars on the lead lap.  Mason Massey gets the “lucky dog” but was two laps down.

Pit road is open but there are very few takes…and none of them from the front of the field.

Justin Allgaier brings the field down for the green flag overtime shootout from the inside lane with Aric Almirola alongside.  This is the fourth race in a row that the Phoenix race has ended in overtime.  Drivers spread out three wide in a battle for the lead.  Alex Bowman gets out in front for the lead.
