Tony Award winning actor Mandy Patinkin is being honoured at the annual Sondheim Award Gala in April.  He will join 13 other actors for the honour.

Actor Ben Platt, opera star Nathan Gunn, Angel Lozada, Tracy Lyn Olivera, Awa Sal Secka, Jon Kalbfleisch, and Julie Gunn will be among those who will pay tribute to Patinkin at the gala

The Sondheim Award “celebrates theatre artists for important contributions to the American musical theatre”.

Patinkin will join previous winners Angela Lansbury, Bernadette Peters, Patti LuPone, Harold Prince Jonathan Tunick, James Lapine, John Weidman, Cameron Mackintosh, John Kander, Audra McDonald, Carol Burnett, Chita Rivera, and Nathan Lane.

Born Mandel Bruce Patinkin in Chicago, a young Mandy got his musical start as a member of the Temple choice when he was nine years old.

While best known for his role as Avigdor in “Yentl” and Saul Berenson on “Homeland”; Patinkin appeared in over a dozen productions on Broadway beginning with his debut in 1975 in “Trelawny of the Wells”. 

Winning his Tony Award for his role as Che in “Evita”, he also appeared in “Hamlet”, “The Shadow Box”, “Sunday in the Park with George”, Mandy Patinkin in Concert: Dress Casual, Michael Feinstein in Concert: Piano and Voice, “The Secret Garden”, “Falsettos”, Mandy Patinkin in Concert, Mandy Patinkin in Concert: Mamaloshen, “The Wild Party”, “Celebrating Sondheim”, and An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin.
