On February 12, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation revealed the nominees for the 2025 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Over half of this year’s nominees are first time nominees and include classic rockers, pop stars, Hip-Hop, and Latin music stars.
Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Maná, Outkast, and Phish are first time nominees with Mariah Carey, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, Oasis, Soundgarden, and The White Stripes making a return to list of nominees.
Artists become eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame 25 years after their first commercial album release.
Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation John Sykes spoke on the nominees saying, “these remarkable Nominees have each created their own musical style and attitude, impacting generations of music lovers and contributing to the ever-evolving sounds and continued growth of rock & roll.
The finalists and eventual inductees will be selected by the over 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals that are members of the Foundation. Fans also get a chance to vote with the fan votes counting as one vote.
Nominees are selected based on their impact on music culture, influence on other musicians, the longevity of their career, and the body of work. Nominees are selected as performers – musical influences, musical excellence -, and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award.
Inductees will be announced this spring with the induction ceremony this autumn in Los Angeles.
