It is not uncommon to see a race car driver continue to race long after they have reached 40 years of age; however, when it comes to football, baseball, and basketball a 40 year old athlete is somewhat rare.

Los Angeles Lakers player LeBron James continues to play at the age of 40.  And he continues to break records.

In a game with the Golden State Warriors on February 6, LeBron James became the first player in the history of the NBA to score at least 40 points in a game after reaching the age of 40.  James scored 42 points in helping his Lakers win the game; which means James scored nearly a third of the 120 points scored during the game.  He also has 17 rebounds and eight assists.

James passed his idol in making history – Michael Jordan is the only other player to score 40 points after turning 40 years old.  Jordan was 40 years and three days old; while James is 40 years and 38 days old.

When asked about his latest achievements James said, “I’m old, that’s my take.  I need a glass of wine and some sleep, that’s what I think.”

AT 40 and counting, LeBron James shows no signs of slowing down in his 22nd season with the NBA.

James was just 19 years ole the first time he scored 40 points in a game to become the youngest player in NBA history to score 40 points in a game.

James noted, “throughout my journey, anytime I’ve been named or put in a category of whatever the case, to cross paths with the greats is always humbling.  Just to know where I come from and I love the game so much, so it’s pretty cool.”

Speaking on James, Lakers coach JJ Redick said, “we’ve run out of words and superlatives and descriptions to capture what he’s doing at this stage of his career and at this age. It continues  to be remarkable. It really does, and he really led us tonight. AR having an off shooting night, and we needed all of that offense from LeBron.”
