It’s the biggest night in music; but this year the Grammy Awards are a bit muted as artists, fans, and residents are all dealing with the devastating wild fires in Los Angeles.

Trevor Noah returns to host the gala event and spoke on the devastation of the city and announced that the fires are under control.  He added that they are not just celebrating the music but the city of Los Angeles as well.

Brothers and wildfire victims Dawes are joined by Brittney Howard, John Legend, Sheryl Crow, Brad Paisley, and St. Vincent for an All Star performance open to the 67th Grammy Awards of the Randy Newman song “I Love LA”.

Along with the music, tonight is a night to help raise funding to help with wildfire relief.  Some of the ads during the show are by local businesses.

Billie Eilish is joined by her brother for a performance outside.

Nominated in all four of the major categories, Sabrina Carpenter takes the stage to perform her hit “Expresso”.

The first award of the night was for Best Rap Album.  Cardi B. presented the award to Doechii for “Alligator Bites Never Heal”.  Since the award’s inception in 1989, she is the just the third woman to win the award.

In response to the acceptance speeches, Trevor Noah said that the award winners can speak as long as they like but anyone going over 90 seconds will be charged $1,000 per second to go to fire relief.

Members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers presented the award for Best Pop Vocal Album to Sabrina Carpenter for “Short and Sweet”.  This is her first Grammy win.

Best New Artist nominee Chappell Roan takes the stage for a performance.

Taylor Swift presents the award for Best Country Album to Beyonce for “Cowboy Carter”. 

Best new artist nominees Khruangbin, Benson Boone, Doechii, Teddy Swims, Shaboozey, and Raye all performed.

Victoria Monet presented the award for Best New Artist to Chappell Roan. 

Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga gave a performance of the Mamas and the Pappas hit “California Dreamin’”.

Recording Academy president Harvey Mason Jr spoke on the Academy and music.

The Weeknd returns to the Grammy stage for a performance.  A few years ago he announced a boycott of the awards due to their lack of transparency and diversity.

Jennifer Lopez presented the award for Best Latin Pop Album to Shakira for “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran”.

Herbie Hancock, Will Smith, Cynthia Erivo, Lainey Wilson, Janelle Monae, and Stevie Wonder paid tribute to 28 time Grammy Award winner Quincy Jones who died last year.  The tribute included “We are the World” and had the whole audience singing along.

SZA presents the award for Best Pop Group or Duo Performance to Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga for “Die with a Smile”.

Chris Martin sings as the screen shows those who have died in the past year.

Mylie Cyrus presented the award for Record of the Year to Kendrick Lamar for “Not Like Us”.

Gloria Estefan introduces fellow Grammy and Latin star Shakira who gave a performance. 

Queen Latifah honours 17 time Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys with the Dr Dre Global Impact Award. 

Diana Ross presented the award for Song of the Year to Kendrick Lamar for “Not Like Us”.

Members of the Los Angeles County Fire Department presented the biggest award of the night – Album of the Year.  They received a rousing standing ovation.  The fire chief thanked all of his fellow firefighters from near and far for their help and support.  Beyonce finally gets her Album of the Year award for “Cowboy Carter”.

Host Trevor Noah announced that over $7 million was raised for wildfire relief during the awards ceremony.
