While he was an integral part of the story, he got only a cameo and not credit…but Burt the crocodile was just as much a part of the film as its star Paul Hogan in “Crocodile Dundee”.
The Crocosaurus Cove reptile aquarium in Darwin, Australis reports that Burt died over the weekend. He was believed to be around 90 years old.
Speaking on Burt, Crocosaurus Cove said he was, “known for his independent nature and was a confirmed bachelor.”
The Aquarium added, “he wasn’t just a crocodile, he was a force of nature and a reminder of the power and majesty of these incredible creatures. While his personality could be challenging, it was also what made him so memorable and beloved by those who worked with him and the thousands who visited him over the years.”
Captured in the 1980’s in Reynolds River, Burt was estimated to be some 16 feet (five meters) in length.
Burt’s “big role” in the 1986 “Crocodile Dundee” film was coming out of the water to attack Sue Charlton as she was at the edge of the water in her swim suit; only to be saved by Mick “Crocodile” Dundee. The close up with Mick and the crocodile was a different reptile.
Charlton was played by Linda Kozlowski with Paul Hogan as Mick Dundee.
Burt has lived at the aquarium since 2008 and plans are in order to honour Burt and his legacy.
