I grew up in an age when please and thank you were part of the everyday language. I still use them a great deal; often several times a day.
I would like to think that if someone had something to say about me it would be that I was courteous and friendly.
In middle and high school, I endured harassment every day – today they call it bullying. It would be nice to think that I am thought of in a kind way.
It is rather unsettling to learn that someone who is supposed to be a friend, is one of the main instigators of the disparaging remarks.
I try to be helpful whenever I can. I use please and thank you frequently, and I try very hard to be courteous to others.
Unfortunately what I would like to think may not be what is said. I have overheard a little but the attitudes and snickers often tell another tale.
Grandma used to say that when you were by yourself, you knew you were in good company. Well, I spend a lot of time alone.
Grandma also used to say that it didn’t cost anything to be nice. Being nice is easy…please and thank you can go a long way.
