A NASCAR driver is required to do much more than just drive a car around a track.  They are required to make sponsor appearances, make commercials, and speak with the media including press conferences.

On December 11 the National Motorsports Appeals Panel upheld a penalty for Craftsman Truck Series driver Ty Majeski who missed the media event prior to the final race of the 2024 season at Phoenix Raceway last month.

Upholding the $12,500 fine, the panel said, the “driver failed to meet contractual agreement with NASCAR. One of the most, if not most, important media obligations of the entire season.”

The infraction happened on November 5 when Majeski missed the Playoffs Media Day in North Carolina in violation of NASCAR Rule Book’s Section 4.4.A – Member Conduct.

Majeski said that he missed the event on November 5 – election day – in order to cast his vote in his home state of Wisconsin; adding that he had the support of team owner ThorSport.

A NASCAR spokesman stated that they were unaware of Majeski’s reason for missing the event; adding that had they know ahead of time, they would have worked with Majeski on the timing of the event.

ThorSport announced that they would seek a final appeal on the penalty.
