The annual Golden Globe Awards kicks off Award season in Hollywood on January 5 with a live television broadcast on CBS with comedic actor Nikki Glaser serving as host.
The musical “Emilia Perez” about a Mexican drug lord tops the list of nominees with 10. On the television side, “the Bear” leads the way with five nominations.
“The Brutalist”, “Conclave”, “Anora”, “The Substance”, and “The Wild Robot” also garnered multiple nominations.
Netflix topped the network nominations with 13 film and 23 television nominations.
Denzel Washington earns his eleventh Golden Globe nomination to make him the most nominated actor of colour.
This year there are 26 first time nominees.
More of a big party than a serious awards show, the Golden Globes can also give a glimpse into how voters may lean when it comes to the annual Academy Awards.
Award winning actress Viola Davis will be presented with the Cecil B DeMille Award for her lifetime contributions in acting. Over the years 69 actors have been presented the award including Tom Hanks, Jeff Bridges, Oprah Winfrey, Morgan Freeman, Meryl Streep, Barbra Streisand and Sidney Poitier.
The Carol Burnett Award which is presented to the actor who has “made outstanding contributions to television on or off screen” is going to veteran actor Ted Danson. His acting credits include “Cheers”, “The Good Place”, “Mr. Mayor”, Fargo”, “CSI” and “CSI: Cyber”, “Damages”, and “Becker”.
