When I was a kid, we had a corded phone, no multiple buttons, no speakers, no hold. If you wanted to talk to more than one person at a time, you needed an extension phone or access to a party line (they were on the way out).
BUT, then some (unspeakable words) person invented a thing called HOLD. People could make you wait to talk to them! UUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHH!
I hate hold!
But even worse is now, every time you call a business, they have these automated “people” answering the phone and pretending to know what it is you want or need. ..even worse than hold!
I want to talk to a REAL person! Someone who can understand what I am saying and answer my questions.
I wonder if Alexander Graham Bell knew what he started and how he would feel when he learned what modern technology has done to his marvelous communications device?
Phones are a great invention, it’s just all of the other stuff…hold, fake people, spam calls.
I was born in the days of manual typewriters and computers that took up an entire room. The internet was non-existent; but I have become a child of technology and for the most part, take advantage of it as much as possible, but the phone thing has always been a pet peeve; especially now with the pretend people who think they know what you want or need. It never fails, the one thing I really need is not one of their options.
