Name the most expensive personal item you’ve ever purchased (not your home or car).

The most expensive item I have ever purchased is my bike – I wonder if that goes under the car category???

Earlier this year, I bought a three wheeled electric bike that I use around the neighbourhood. It has a battery life of 25 miles but I do not travel that far. I don’t think I have even gone two miles in one direction and certainly not five miles from home.

The top speed is just 15mph but again, I don’t go that fast; usually around four or five unless I am going downhill and then I am riding the brakes to keep the speed down.

I ride on the sidewalk as much as possible and there is absolutely NO riding after dark! And of course, the helmet is a must. Being safe always comes first.

I got the bike to help me run errands and such close to home because the mass transit system has gotten so bad. There used to be a bus down Main Street with a stop on the corner of my street less than half a block away. The bus stop two blocks away served the other three buses in the area. Now, only two buses use the stop two blocks away and there is no bus near where I live. And the bus routes have all been altered to run just once an hour.

With the bike, I can get to places the bus doesn’t go and there is a nice basket in back. Yeah, no more half hour walk to do the laundry, I can pile it in the basket and take a 10 minute ride get to the laundry mat. That was one of the places I could reach on the bus before they took the route away.

But with winter coming on, I’m not sure how much riding I’m going to be able to do; but still it’s nice to know that I can get there if I need to.

A sea green in colour, I am surprised that every time I go out, people compliment the bike and ask where I got it.

I almost forgot, not long after I moved here the excuse for a refrigerator died and the landlord didn’t offer to replace it, so I had to buy a new one myself. Thank goodness for Aaron’s! The frig that was here when I moved in was one step above the old ice box…it had not light and the metal racks had been there so long they were rusted. I put placemats down before I put any food in there. But when the refrigerator part got colder than the freezer part, it was time to do something.

Funny thing is when I put the old frig out on the street it was gone the next morning!
