In this week’s penalty report following the races last weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway several fines were assessed for improperly secured lug nuts; but there were also two serious penalties levied that resulted in a suspension and a loss of points.

During the Craftsman Truck Series race Conner Jones hit Matt Mills from behind sending Mills into the wall.  Mill’s truck caught fire and while he exited the truck under his own power, he spent two nights in a local hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.  During the race, NASCAR held Jones for two laps for reckless driving and on Wednesday NASCAR further penalized Jones with a one race suspension for violation of the NASCAR Member Code of Conduct rule.

Truck Series driver Layne Riggs was penalized for improper mounted ballast.  Crew chief Dyaln Cappello was suspended for one race and Riggs and Front Row Motorsports were docked 10 driver and owner points.

Though not a part of the playoffs, Riggs remains in eleventh place in the point standings.

The remainder of the penalties were all related to improperly secured lug nuts.  Three car from the Xfinity Series and one truck in. The Craftsman Truck Series were fined.  The crew chief’s from the Xfinity Series were all fined $5,000 each with the Craftsman Truck Series crew chief fined $2,500.
