Each year NASCAR Foundation presents the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award to the volunteer who makes a difference with their humanitarian efforts.
On October 22 the Foundation revealed the names of the four finalists for the 2024 Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award – Tammy Raulerson, Judy Simmons, Carlos Washington and Julie Wooldridge.
NASCAR Foundation Chairman Mike Helton spoke on the finalists saying, “this year’s award finalists exemplify the generosity of our NASCAR community. Their volunteer efforts have significantly impacted the lives of children in our local racing communities, a passion for helping others which was championed by Betty Jane France. Tammy, Judy, Carlos and Julie are inspirations to us all. We hope NASCAR fans everywhere will take time learn more about these incredible finalists’ stories and vote for this year’s award winner.”
The Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award is named in honor of the foundation’s late founder and chairwoman Betty Jane France, recognizes NASCAR fans who volunteer for children’s causes in their local communities. The finalists receive a $25,000 donation for their organization. The winner receives a $100,000 donation to their organization.
Meet the finalists for the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award:
Tammy Raulerson from College Station, Texas has been a volunteer with the Periwinkle Foundation where she oversees family camp weekends for families with pediatric cancer patients. Tammy has been a part of the Periwinkle Foundation for over 10 years.
Judy Simmons has spent the past six years with God’s Pit Crew – a disaster response team – leading volunteers to provide essential needs in times of crisis.
Florence, Sout Carolina’s Carlos Washington has spent 20 years volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club aiding with their development in competence, usefulness, belonging, and influence.
From the heart of NASCAR in Mooresville, North Carolina, Julie Wooldridge is the co-founder of Hope of Mooresville who provides services to homeless women and children in the form of temporary safe shelters, support services, and solutions to end homelessness.
The winner of the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award is determined by fan vote at NASCARfoundation.org/Award. Fans can vote once each day from now until November 18 at 6pm EST.
The winner will be announced as a part of the NASCAR Awards ceremony on November 22.
