Last weekend the Xfinity and Cup Series went road racing at Watkins Glen International – a place that has sported auto racing for over 75 years. Fuel mileage and overtime racing was the word of the weekend. The point standings got a shakeup with a rookie driver winning in his debut and a non-playoff driver taking the win in a playoff race.
While eight of the 16 playoff drivers improved their positions in the standings; five of the drivers dropped in the standings with Ryan Blaney leading the field with a seven position drop after a lap one crash. A total of 10 of the 16 playoff drivers were either involved in a crash or had mechanical issues at Watkins Glen. William Byron also had a big drop in the standings with a six position drop.
Christopher Bell takes over the points lead with 2,089 points while Joey Logano holds on to the Playoff standing after winning last week’s race and securing a spot in the next round of the playoffs.
