After the wild chaotic race that was Daytona last weekend, three Xfinity Series teams have been assessed a major penalty by NASCAR for making unapproved modifications to the cars. Citing Sections 14.4.A and 14.4.11 C&D in the NASCAR Rule Book; NASCAR said that the infractions were discovered during the pre-race inspection process prior to the Wawa 250 on Friday night. The infractions were related to the body and rear bumper covers of the cars.
As a result of the infractions, the crew chiefs were fined $25,000 each, docked 20 driver points, 20 owner points, and five playoff points.
The teams involved were:
The number 27 Jordan Anderson Racing car driven by Jeb Burton with Shane Whitbeck as crew chief
The number 28 RSS Racing car driven by Kyle Sieg with Joe Williams as crew chief
The number 45 Alpha Prime Racing car driven by part-time driver Caesar Bacarella with Kase Kallenbach as crew chief.
After the change in the point standings, Jeb Burton dropped one spot in the standings with 315 points, Kyle Sieg holds on to his 24th place standings with 267 points, and Caesar Bacarella drops five spots in the standings with just 46 points.
