When I learned that I was going to actually get to go to the Stray Cats concert – 40 years after the first one – I was pretty excited; but it didn’t compare to my trip to New York in April.

My nephew, Darius “DFG” Fulghum is a professional boxer and most of his fights have been in Texas and California with a trip to Mexico, so I only got to see him via the live video on my brother’s phone.
My brother calls me up and asks if I would like to see my nephew fight. My first response was “you have to ask?”. The fight was scheduled to be at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

A train ride across the state and a whirlwind weekend couldn’t dampen my excitement in not only seeing my nephew fight; but also, meeting him and other family members I have yet to see.
The fight was stopped in the fourth round and Darius remained unbeaten.
He has since had another fight – in Indio – and continues to be undefeated at 12 – 0!
Instead of a nickname, Darius chose “DFG” which stands for Destined for Greatness!
As an amateur he is a Golden Gloves champion and was a member of Team USA and set for the Olympic team when Covid hit.
I am not a fan of boxing…or any sport where people are beating each other up; but Darius is family and I support him wholeheartedly and will cherish any chance I get to see him fight.
