As crazy as I am about music, I used to dream about having my own music store. Now that I am older, and see all the changes in how music is made and distributed, I’m not so sure.
Yet, as a photographer and artist, I have thought at times of having a small gallery to display my work…and other likeminded people.
But, I wonder if there is a way to combine the two? Over the years as a journalist covering many music events I have gotten to know many musicians. Many of these musicians are looking to sell their own CD’s.
Maybe I could open a small place that displays and sells artwork and also offers music from local musicians – current and those who have become well known and moved away from the area.
But, in the end, it is all just a dream. Costs of a building and all the expenses require to maintain such a place is very cost prohibitive. When long standing businesses are closing their doors, there’s little chance for a new small business to succeed in today’s world.
