Before the Covid pandemic, people seldom left home without their wallet/purse, keys, and mobile phone.

Since the pandemic, a mask and sanitizer were aded to the list of essentials.

But no matter what a person has on them when leaving home, the most important thing is some form of identification. A driver must have their driving license with them; not only for ID, but to prove who they are and that they have the right to operate the vehicle if for some reason, they are stopped by the authorities.

Heaven forbid a disaster or an accident occurs, some form of ID is important so that the authorities know who was involved and can help notify family members in case of emergency.

There are also instances where a person must show ID to prove they are old enough to consume adult beverages, cast a vote, get money from the bank, and simply just to prove identification.

There are even places in the world where citizens must show ID simply to move about the area.

For me, my list of essentials for leaving home include my Kindle; but living in a border state, my state ID also gets me across the border if I choose to do so.

American Express used to have a commercial where they would say to never leave home without it (the credit card) but that term also applies to a form of photo ID in nearly every part of the world.
