On October 1 Jimmy Carter will turn 100 which will make him the oldest living President.
In celebration of the upcoming event, The Carter Center is holding a musical gala at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, Georgia on September 17.
“Jimmy Carter 100: A Celebration in Song” will include music from a variety of genres. Artists scheduled to appear include Chuck Leavell, D-Nice, Drive By Truckers, Eric Church, GROUPLOVE, Killer Mike, Maren Morris and The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chamber Chorus. Actor Sean Penn and former Atlanta Braves star Dale Murphy are also on the guest list. Along with the music, the event is a celebration of “t the Carters’ work advocating for human rights, public health and democracy around the world.”
Carter, whose wife Rosalyn died last year, remains in the family’s Plains, Georgia home where grandson Jason said that the 39th President still enjoys watching Atlanta Braves baseball games and listening to music.
Speaking on the former President, grandson Jason said via a statement, “whether it was on his record players, on the campaign trail, or on the White House lawn, music has been and continues to be a source of joy, comfort and inspiration for my grandfather,” Jason Carter said in a statement.
With proceeds going to The Carter Center, tickets are $100 and will be available beginning at 10am on August 5 at the Fox Theater.
