In its first full day of competition, the 2024 Paris Olympics spread far beyond its borders with the first round in the surfing competition taking place in French Polynesia – Tahiti.

The Games also gave out their first awards with 18 of the 205countries – plus the neutral athletes of Russia and Belarus – earning at least one medal.  Australia leads the way with two gold medals and a total of three medals overall.  Host nation France and the United States have also earned a total of three medals.  Seven of the countries have earned at least one gold medal – Australia and China lead the way with two.

The very unique opening ceremony was not the only first for the Summer Olympic Games in Paris; this marks the first year that there is equal parity between the male and female athletes.
