June means Pride month and Broadway is prepared to help celebrate with a big block party at the end of the month sponsored by Playbill and the Times Square Alliance.
With New York City already dressed up and ready to party for Pride Weekend, the festivities are set for June 28 and 29. The weekend and the month will conclude with the big Pride Parade and the return to the Playbill Pride float.
Times Square has seen its share of parties and gatherings from the dropping of the ball each New Year’s Eve to the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade; on June 28, Times Square will be the site for a massive block party. Beginning at 5:15pm, the party will go on rain or shine and include some of the starts from Broadway and Off-Broadway.
The end of June also means the end of another school year; on June 29 the festivities continue with a Summer Youth Employment Program beginning at 11am to help youth find welcoming summer jobs. The program will also include performances, stories, and guest speakers.
At 11:45am the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce; along with Gubhub, will be presenting some grants to NYC-based LGBTQIA+ and allied bars and restaurants.
ViiV Healthcare presents “Celebrate You” at 2:30pm with a program of “proudly queer” talent supporting queens everywhere.
At 5:15pm the celebration returns to Times Square and the Big Broadway Disco! Get out those bell bottoms, platform shoes, and wild hair-do’s and get ready to dance the night away.
