Springtime means Tony Award nominations on Broadway; but it isn’t the only competition happening on the streets of the Great White Way.

Broadway Cares also holds their Equity Fights AIDS Spring Fundraising Competition where the productions help to raise funding for the charity.

This year 45 Broadway, Off Broadway, and National Tours spent six weeks raising money and brought in nearly $5 million!

Broadway actors Gavin Creel, J Harrison Ghee, and Andrea McArdle made the announcement of $4,702,394 was raised.

Fundraising efforts included the Red Buckets and the Easter Bonnet Competition.

The money will go toward providing meals and health for people in need throughout the nation.

“Merrily We Roll Along” led the way with nearly half a million dollars in funding raised.

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS began in 1988.  Since that time, they have earned over $100 million for the non-profit organization.
