In the first week after the announcement of the 77th annual Tony Award nominees, the overall numbers were down a bit, but some shows defied the odds. It is no surprise that “The Lion King” topped the list on the Million Dollar Club at $2 million; but what is a surprise is despite a still heavily comped production “Cabaret” just missed the $2 million mark.  In its final week of performances, “Sweeney Todd” saw a good draw and ranked in the top five of the Million Dollar Club.

Only 15 of the productions running last week made it in the Million Dollar Club due to many of the shows still comping tickets to the press and now Tony Award voters.

The Million Dollar Club:
“The Lion King”
“Cabaret”
“Sweeney Todd”
“Hamilton”

“Hell’s Kitchen”
“Aladdin”

The 90 percent club faired somewhat better with 19 of the productions having at least a 90 percent capacity.  The top four on the list had at least 100 percent with the number one show reaching over 103 percent capacity.
