Daily writing prompt
If you could have something named after you, what would it be?

I have never really thought about that question. My website does not contain my name, only a reference to what the site contains.

I have never been one to want to stand out in the crowd, so plastering my name all over the place to help inflate my ego.

But in a way, there is already something – actually several somethings – that carry my name. I have been told that my first name Sherrill – which is also my mother’s maiden name – comes from Old English and has something to do with or is named for a lakeside community.

I’m not sure about the British Isles, but when the first Sherrill arrived in the “New World” in 1633, they brought their name and today there are no less than seven cities and towns that carry the name Sherrill.

The smallest city in the state of New York is located between Syracuse and Rome. Known in the past for its silver making is the tiny village of Sherrill.

There is also a Sherrill in Iowa, Arkansas, Missouri, Texas (near Austin), Oklahoma, and Arizona. And in North Carolina, there is a Sherrill’s Ford.

It would be cool to visit these places…hey, that’s my name too! 🙂

More, somewhat unconfirmed information is that there are a number of castles in the United Kingdom that are named after my Dad’s side of the family. Evidently, the Foljambe (Anglicized to Fulghum…and Fulgham) was “a thing” and there are some castles around the islands.
