On a chilly early morning, the Xfinity Series takes the track at Richmond Raceway for some practice and qualifying prior to running the Toyota Care 250.

There are 38 starting spots in the race and 38 teams brought cars to the track; everyone will get a start.  There are no Cup Series regulars in today’s race.

Joey Gase spins out and taps the rear of the wall after just a couple of laps and puts practice on hold for a bit.

Matt DiBenedetto makes a return to the track driving the number 38 car.

Late Model champion driver Bubba Pollard is making his Xfinity Series debut driving the number 88 car from JR Motorsports.  The 13 time champion has won over 100 races in his career.

Despite reporting a tight condition, Bubba Pollard tops the leaderboard after the 20 minute practice session.  New papa Josh Williams is just a hundredth of a second behind in second.

A short track at just ¾ of a mile, the drivers will run two laps in single car qualifying with only one round of qualifying.  The fastest car sits on the pole.

After little time for a rest, Bubba Pollard is the first driver on the track to make a qualifying run.  He posted a time of 23.947 seconds around the ¾ mile track.

Joey Gase will not make a qualifying run after hs early practice session wreck.

Logan Bearden is making his Xfinity Series debut today; he is one of three drivers that will be making their debuts in today’s race.

Ryan Ellis is the first driver to break the 23 second mark with a time of 22.945 seconds.

Today will be Xfinity Series start number 470 for Jeremy Clements.  He will start the race in the top 20.

Driving the number 20 car, Aric Almirola returns to the spot where it all began when he runs the race later today.

Last week Shane van Gisbergen was originally listed as finishing the race at COTA in second place; but NASCAR determined that Gisbergen had short cut the track and was penalized 30 seconds, dropping him to 27th.

With a time of 22.420 seconds, Parker Retzlaff puts his number 31 car on the pole for his first career pole with Brandon Jones starting alongside on the front row.  This is also the first pole for car owner Jordan Anderson.

Morgan Baird is back at home with the birth of his child; Garrett Smithley is taking over the driving duties.

Cup Series drivers Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski join Adam Alexander in the FOX Sports broadcast booth for today’s race.

It’s 30 degrees warmer than it was in qualifying as the drivers crank the engines.  Stages one and two are 75 laps each with stage three lasting 100 laps for a total of 250 laps around the track.  Fuel is not the issue for the teams; but tires are, they have only three sets of tires in the pits.

The eight car had a bit of trouble getting the engine started but Sammy Smith is moving and one the track.

Parker Retzlaff brings the field down for the green flag start of the race with Brandon Jones alongside.  Cole Custer comes up from third to battle with Retzlaff for the lead.

Lap two, Parker Retzlaff takes the lead with Cole Custer in second; Justin Allgaier, Brandon Jones, Chandler Smith, and Corey Heim round out the top five.

Lap five, Parker Retzlaff holds on to the lead with Justin Allgaier in second; Cole Custer, Chandler Smith, and Brandon Jones round out the top five.

Lap nine, Parker Retzlaff has a third of a second lead on Justin Allgaier; Cole Custer, Chadler Smith, and Brandon Jones round out the top five.

Lap 14, Parker Retzlaff has pulled out to a half second lead on Justin Allgaier; Cole Custer, Chandler Smith, and Brandon Jones continue to round out the top five.

Parker Retzlaff has a passenger, there is a paper plate on his front grille.

Lap 20, Ryan Vargas brings out the first caution flag when his car is heavy with smoke and had a fire somewhere in the car.

Parker Retzlaff got the plate off of his car and brings the field down for the green flag restart with Justin Allgaier alongside on lap 28.  Cole Custer again jumps up to try and battle with Retzlaff for the lead.  Justin Allgaier comes up on the outside and passes Parker Retzlaff for the lead.  Drivers were three wide in a battle for position.

Lap 31, Justin Allgaier has pulled out to a near one second lead on Corey Heim; Cole Custer, Parker Retzlaff, and Aric Almirola round out the top five.

Lap 36, Corey Heim has closed the gap on leader Justin Allgaier to less than half a second; Cole Custer, Aric Almirola, and Parker Retzlaff round out the top five.

Aric Almirola passes Cole Custer for third.

Lap 43, Corey Heim passed Justin Allgaier for the lead.

The second caution flag of the race comes out when Brandon Jones spins out and is spewing fluid.  Something broke on the car and came out on the track.  Reports are a motor issue on Jone’s car.

Ryan Sieg spins out after hitting the fluid on the track.

Blaine Perkins is stopped on the track and is reporting no power.

AJ Allmendinger comes down pit road after reporting some major handling issues.  A few other drivers also come down pit road but only Brennan Poole takes fresh tires.

Corey Heim brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 57 and battles with Justin Allgaier for the lead.  Getting a bit of a push from Aric Almirola, Justin Allgaier takes the lead but Corey Heim isn’t letting Allgaier get away.

Lap 60, Justin Allgaier leads the race; Aric Almirola passes Corey Heim for second with Cole Custer and Riley Herbst rounding out the top five.

Blaine Perkins is in the garage after his car stalled on the track.

Lap 63, Aric Almirola moves up to battle with Justin Allgaier for the lead.

Lap 65, Aric Almirola passes Justin Allgaier for the lead.

After changing tires during his pit stop, Brennan Polle has entered the top 10.

Lap 68, Aric Almirola has pulled out to a lead of nearly a second on Justin Allgaier; Corey Heim, Riley Herbst, and Chandler Smith round out the top five.

Lap 70, Aric Almirola’s lead is now over a second on Justin Allgaier.

Brennan Poole has entered the top five.

The tires from Sheldon Creed’s car were showing cords.

The caution flag comes out on lap 96 when Logan Beard spins out and has a lot of smoke coming out of his car.

Patrick Emerling also has an issue with his car.

Ryan Sieg came down pit road for adjustments and was caught speeding on pit road.

Aric Almirola brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 102 and holds on to the lead.  Parker Kligerman got loose in a four wide battle and barely missed the wall.

Lap 104, Arc Almirola leads the race with Chandler Smith in second; Justin Allgaier, Riley Herbst, and Austin Hill rounding out the top five.

Lap 106, Chandler Smith and Justin Allgaier battle for second with Allgaier getting the spot.  Aric Almirola has a half second lead.

Sheldon Creed has smoke coming out of his car.  He reports smelling oil with a possible engine issue.

Lap 111, Arick Almirola has pulled out to a one second lead on Justin Allgaier; Chandler Smith, Riley Herbst, and Austin Hill round out the top five.

Sam Mayer has a flat tire and damage to his car as a result of the pit road contact. On the outside lane, he has missed pit entry once but gets down pit road.

Chandler Smith passes Aric Almirola for the lead

Lap 165, Chandler Smith has a near half second lead on Aric Almirola; Justin Allgaier, Austin Hill, and Cole Custer round out the top five.

Sam Mayer returns to the track in 32nd place, two laps down.

With 81 laps remaining in the race, Chandler Smith has a lead of over a half second on Aric Almirola; Justin Allgaier, Austin Hill, and Cole Custer round out the top five.

Ryan Sieg is on pit road.

The caution flag comes out with 77 laps remaining in the race when Joey Gase spins out after some on track contact and hits the wall hard.  A frustrated Gase takes the rear bumper from his car and throws it at Dawson Cram and hits the car.

Some of the drivers come down pit road for fresh tires.  The top 14 drivers on the track did not make a pit stop.

Lap 184, Justin Allgaier brings the field down for the green flag restart with Cole Custer alongside.  Drivers are spread out three and four wide across the track.  Cole Custer takes the lead with Justin Allgaier in second; Riley Herbst, Parker Retzlaff, and AJ Allmendinger round out the top five.  On fresh tires, Chandler Smith is already in the top five.

Still one lap down, Cole Custer is running five miles per hour faster than the rest of the field on fresher tires.

Fourteen to go, leader Chandler Smith has pulled out to a lead of over two and a half second.

Ten to go, Chandler Smith now has a three second lead on Aric Almirola.  There are just 12 cars on the lead lap.

Lap 243, Hailie Deegan is slowed on the track with no power.  She makes it to pit road and the track stays green.
