With its final performance on March, the play “Appropriate” had its highest grossing week in the show’s history last week with a box office draw of $859,269; falling just a little short of entering the Million Dollar Club.
But this past week saw 13 of the 24 productions currently running on Broadway enter the Million Dollar Club with two of them topping the $2 million mark. Not surprising, “The Lion King” again brought in over $2 million; but “Wicked” also brought in over $2 million. No surprises with the remainder of the top five with “Hamilton”, “Merrily We Roll Along”, and “MJ The Musical” rounding out the top five.
Even with two shows topping $2 million and the boost in the “Appropriate” box office; the total numbers were down nearly $1 million last week.
“The Notebook” is still in previews with just seven performances each week instead of eight and “Water for Elephants” has just joined the list of productions with only two performances last week.
