Between 1992 and 1997 Donny Osmond played the role of Joseph in the Lord Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”.   Later this year Osmond will return to the hit musical; but this time he will be playing the role of The Pharaoh.

In 1999, Osmond reprised his role of Joseph for a film of the musical that also starred Joan Collins and Maria Friedman.

He will appear in a limited number of performances for the holiday season in the United Kingdom at the Playhouse in Edinburgh from December 3-29.

Singing since he was a small child; Osmond has had a career that includes singing with his brothers, his sister Marie, and as a solo artist.  The “Masked Singer” alum and “Dancing with the Stars” champion has sold over 100 million albums in that time.  He spoke on his return to “Joseph” saying, “I always knew I would return to ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’.  Having starred as Joseph in over 2,000 performances in this magical musical, I am now ready to channel my inner Elvis and assume the role of Pharaoh in Edinburgh starting this December.”

Producer for the musical Michael Harrison added, “following the extraordinary reception the Edinburgh Playhouse and thousand of theatre fans gave ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ at the end of the 2022 tour, it made absolute sense to begin the new tour here and to ask Joseph royalty, Donny Osmond, to star as our festive season Pharaoh.  Few shows bring the generations together the way Joseph does, and we are honored to have an icon of the show join us to create a magical moment for families this Christmas, who will cherish the experience for years to come.”

While more cast members will be forthcoming; Laurence Connor is set to direct the musical with JoAnn M. Hunter as the choreographer.  Morgan Large will design the costumes, lighting by Ben Cracknell, Gareth Owen on sound, musical supervision by John Rigby, and casting by David Grindrod.
